The curse

I found really difficult to write about this short story. It is a story where no life is mentioned. I perceive only destruction. Despite this feeling, I found two elements that reflect some hope which are the church and the river. The river seems to be the only thing that is moving in the story. Water usually represents purity and also a new beginning( I believe that this story is not an exception in this issue). Therefore I think that the author is trying to create a sense of awareness towards nuclear weapons on the readers.( he sets a depressing scene but still give us some hope). Although words as glow, glimmering, fire, are all mention in the story I feel darkness prevails during the whole story.
